The early years are critical in a child's development and our aim in Prep One Department is to provide the highest quality of education in a stimulating and supportive learning environment.
The Foundation Stage is about developing key skills such as speaking, listening, persistence, concentration and cooperation with others. It is also about developing literacy and numeracy skills to ensure that our pupils are fully ready and geared for continued success in the following academic years.
The curriculum for the Foundation Stage underpins all future learning across six areas:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
In addition, the children enjoy French, Music, Games and Dance lessons all taken by specialist teachers, which really means the 'whole child' is developed.
At St. John's we provide an exciting and challenging Early Years education and our successful Ofsted is testimony to this. Our two classrooms are equipped to foster independence and motivation in a well thought-out, caring and structured environment. We also make good use of our beautiful grounds, which we call our
'outside classroom'. We love to have visitors and our trips out, twice a term, allow for that crucial first hand experience young children so need.
We aim high, both socially and academically and our pupils rise to this challenge admirably. Not only do we offer a high standard of practical and purposeful activities, but we insist that the children receive the type of education that prepares them fully for the high academic standards one expects at St. John's.
