St. John’s Pre School Christmas Show
We are, at St John’s, perhaps unique as a junior school in that every year we stage two full-scale theatrical productions in a professional theatre – The Wyllyotts Centre in Potters Bar.
Our magical Christmas show is performed by the Lower Prep children (the infants) and it is always a visual delight with stunning costumes, make-up and scenery. This year’s show, ‘Sugar Plum’, told the story of Edie, a rather naughty elf from Santa’s grotto who causes mayhem wherever she goes. There were songs and dances (and some dreadful jokes too!) and after weeks of great excitement and anticipation from the children they gave a wonderful performance full of enormous energy and enthusiasm.
We believe that giving children the opportunity to perform in a professional theatre is an invaluable experience. They are encouraged to work independently and with a high level of concentration and by taking part they learn to move, sing and speak with confidence and expression, overcoming any fears about performing. But more importantly they learn to work with and support each other as part of a team with a common goal – so essential for their overall personal development and, of course, an invaluable life-skill.
